Thank you for empowering me to do this. Your video matters so much more than you know!
*** I had to increase the cost of the Laser Birds Targets from 29.95 to 49.95. The price increase is due to having the Laser Birds printed by a third party manufacturer that has multiple high speed printers. It was taking me over 8 hours to print just one set of Birds. I knew if I didn't change my manufacturing strategy I would be surrendering all of my free time being trapped by my 3D printer. Thank You for understanding, and keep in mind that the extra 20.00 cost still makes the entire system a very affordable way to add repetition to your Live fire practice. Regards, James Mason Brown
Thank you for teaching safe rescue practices.
Can you also clearly read the text on license plates and signs?
The Camera Resolution is 1080p so signs are definitely readable, and license plates would have to be within approximately 6 Meters (18 Feet).
Melt and pour lead in a very open area try and not breath the fumes from this as lead is very toxic and will damage your lungs after long exposure. You need to look at tire weights carefully as they are moveing away from lead as a components
I want to thank you sir. I use to tie this all free handed and now that I’m older and wiser lol my hands just don’t cooperate as much. Where are the Golden Years lol. Thank you and look forward to some more ideas.
Thanks Tom, I know the feeling regarding the manual dexterity. Look on the bright side… at least we’re not brain surgeons. LOL 😆
@@PompanoBrownie Very true
I appreciated your heartfelt tribute to your dad. I wish that I had known him and been able to talk surf fishing with him. You are a fortunate man to have had such a wonderful father.
Thanks Chuck, he was a real Outdoorsman.
Thank you very much for this video. It helps a lot to be able to decide and I already decided on this GPS, including the microSD card & case. 😊
The thirst of curiosity can only be quenched by knowledge. I’m glad it helped you.
Outstanding. Brief and to the point. No lengthy preamble.
Thanks Susie!
I have been a commercial fisherman for over 30 years so have the whole conventional reel use covered by trial and error over the years. However having said this, I must say that this is one of the best tutorial videos I have ever seen on the use of conventional reels. I think I will show it to my students going forward as your visual explanations blow mine out of the water. Well done guys!
Thanks Bamboo.. Chris is a pro for sure.
Great job. what are the fire ring vents for when the inner drum has its bottom lid with no holes in it?
Watch that video again, that inner drum has plenty of holes on the bottom plate, that also is on the stand-offs that create airflow at the bottom. It’s the outer drum that doesn’t have any holes.
What if your heating element in bent and it won't come out of the hole?
Larry, just force it out. It will bend because it’s probably old. Some of those heating elements have a U-turn at the end and once it bends a little bit, you’ll be able to finish the removal once it hits the U-turn and just lift up or down a little bit.
Ty sir 👍🏽😎
You bet Marine

I didn't need my impact wrench, but I did use a 38mm impact socket and 24" breaker bar. Thanks for all the tips....kept this to about 3.5 hours (including travel time).

All the SW Florida counties are getting the bulk of their Pompano tonnage from gill netters fishing the PEZ. It's the only area that allows gill netting for Pomps, the long run is worth it due to the high yield and higher prices at the northen most fish houses. Also if they were all based out of Everglades city, the price would be crap at the market. On the east coast the Palm beach hook and line fleet out of Jupiter mainly fish in Martin county.
Thank you for the info Carlos, very interesting and informative.
The best
MA private is to the low tide mean mark
How do you put the picture in picture on? I’ve seen where the left half of the screen is that like cartoon map and the upper right will be real time Road view. I saw that you put a picture and picture on your own for the video, but I mean, how does the Garmin do it?
I did that through my video editing software so you could see where I was during the trip. You will not have that capability on the Garmin.

Hey is it still same rule in 2024 ?
Yes it is. 11” to the fork and a limit of 6 per person daily bag limit. myfwc.com/fishing/saltwater/recreational/permit/
Genius!
Thanks Schuten!
great video
Thanks we made two of these jigs they work great! getting ready to take a 2 week vacation surf fishing all along the panhandle of Florida we made a couple of dozen pompano rigs in no time 😊thanks again
Thanks Koop! Now go drag some fat ones up the Beach! Tight Lines!
Do you find that it's stronger than the uni to uni knot or connecting the two with a swivel?
I think a swivel wouldn’t pass thru the eyelets of the surf rod smoothly. I have only used the blood knot my entire life. I have never had a blood knot fail me. Line failure is usually from sharks and bluefish cutting the line with their teeth. It’s important to check your shock leader daily for nicks or abrasion.
Great vid informative, short to the point just started making my own rigs and i appreciate you posting this
Thanks Koop, nothing like catching fish on your own rigs! Tight Lines!
I have an antique Heddon RR in the box 9110RH
I’ll bet it’s dying to get out of that box to take a swim.
Sort of a report: it took me 45 min to build this, but I had alll the tools. This was the second attempt, I broke off one of the front "arms" on the first, because I picked 1x4 made out of some crap. I made the little shuttle thingy out of one of the clamps, as was suggested in another video. The tricky thing was to get rid of all the sharp edges after cutting off parts of it. The metal is extremely soft, so I ended up using 400 grit sandpaper to polish it and not make more rough places. Awesome idea, and a great tribute to the Dad. I signed the bottom with the info for future generations.
Nice Job! And yes.. sanding off any burrs or sharp edges on the nails and metal spinner is a definite requirement. You don’t want to have any nicks on the monofilament after tying a rig. Tight lines, my friend.
@@PompanoBrownie I should mention that I added another small nail to hang the spinner while threading the loop, I saw this in a video of your father. It turned out to be very convenient for the last step of tying a loop.
He did have that on his!
Thanks for the video. One year later (now) it's still hard to find Eagle Claw 2/0 at stores :) Could I ask you a question about off-set hooks: is there an issue with gut-hooking? I have a stash of inline circle hooks which I can just bend to off-set them, but what would be a reasonable offset to avoid gut-hooking?
I wouldn’t offset any more than 2X times the thickness of the hook. Remember, you don’t want these hooks to be to be used in a boat in Florida. Especially if they are stainless offset. Use them for Surf fishing only or Mr. Game Warden will fine you heavily. myfwc.com/fishing/saltwater/recreational/gear-rules/
Quick note of thanks for all of your videos over the years. Really appreciate your knowledge and wisdom. It is a great tribute to your father; his legacy lives on! God bless you and tight lines!
Thanks Patrick, I guess it’s my way of keeping him immortal.
Excellent idea thank you
Thank you, sir, I am glad I found this video.
I hope it helped you, please tell your fishing Buddies.
Thanks I have been thinking about trying conventional this video has great info!
Thanks for sharing, how tall and wide, what’s the length? Building one now for my roof top deck, I’m building it between my screen room and shed, I have 4 wide, 12 long and eight high. Thanks.
You can build it to any dimension that you want. You just have to make sure that you have enough counterweight to raise easily. I just stayed with the standard 7” rise and 11” tread.
Very nice video. Surly you worked hard to make this long clip which covers everything. Windshield mounting mostly keep on falling if outside temperature high. Did you find this problem often? What would be other alternative? For SUVs you select car or van? Thank you.
You could try using a silicone lubricant gel on the suction cup. www.amazon.com/dp/B07C3CZ9CL/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_EVS947E8QZAW4Z11PP7H?linkCode=ml2&tag=pompanobrow09-20 You don’t want to use petroleum based on rubber. I would set the taller setting for an SUV.
Great video, break down, and tips! Thanks for all these great videos!
That is exactly what I was looking for. It looks so much better using the "Folder view". Thanks!
Thanks Thug, it sure does make it look better.
Great story, unfortunately I know exactly what you are talking about.
Now that you’ve used this since you’ve made the video or longer, how is it GPS going Sir. I’m thinking of the 86 model. Cheers NZ.
I love my DriveCam. I think having the dash cam is a real plus in the event of an accident and having proof of what occurred. The voice commands and the app on your phone make it a breeze to input a destination. The real-time traffic has alerted me to alternative routes in traffic jams too. Go for it, you won’t regret it.
A minor point, but if you have an Android phone with Google maps you can download the complete map for any area - even the entire US if you have enough storage. I have my state and most of the surrounding areas downloaded, so if I lose cell phone coverage, I can just rely upon the GPS signal - just like the Garmin.
There no doubt that today’s Smartphone’s have a lot of ability. I prefer not having to remember to download maps in advance. Especially if I’m confronted with a emergency and have to rush someone to a hospital.
@@PompanoBrownie I do understand your trepidation, however, with Google you just have to download the maps once - and it will automatically download updates when you are on Wi-Fi (or if you're on an unlimited cell data system) as roads are added or diverted. You don't have to remember to do anything again - not unlike Garmin. Don't get me wrong, I do like Garmin. I added one to my older daily driver to replace my outdated GPS. However, for ease of use, phone and music integration, I prefer Google.
That’s what I love about America. We are allowed to choose our own path. (Within the confines of the law of course… lol)
@@PompanoBrownie Well, that's why those things post the speed limits, also :)
This Is literally my reel. In Europe they are called Penn 525 Mag 2
Take good care of it and rinse after every use. Never wade into deeper water to try and cast farther. You take the chance of a rogue wave and saltwater damage.
@@PompanoBrowniein the Mediterranean sea Is better to stay on the sand. For rinsing, you mean the line or all the reel with the drag full tight?
Rise Saltwater off reel daily with fresh water to prevent corrosion and bearing damage.
I've been on a blood knot quest recently this is by far the easiest I have tried
You have the air adapter. just hook it up to an air compressor or a foot pump and blow them out.
Awesome idea! If I put the compressor up to 110psi I can do some target practice! Lol
Now don't go giving my grands any ideas, lol. You put out alot of great info on you channel. I just started surf fishing a year ago while on vacation on the gulf side if Florida. I live in the Fingerlakes, NY and catch lakers avg. 6 lbs. Catching quite a few smaller out of the ocean is different, but you never know what you might catch.
Make sure you use a shock leader in the event that you do get that big lunker on the beach and don’t have to worry about a slight Nick in your line. I like using 50 pound shock leader thats about twice the length of my surf rod. The other biggest benefit of a shock leader is your line won’t break on a hard cast with a 5 ounce sinker.
I find it odd that you can't store mp3s on the micro sd and play music while you're driving. It's only possible to play music over Bluetooth.
